Official Calculation Formulae
How VTU Calculates SGPA & CGPA
1. Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA)
SGPA is the weighted average of grade points earned in all courses taken in a given semester:
SGPA = Σ(Ci × Gi) / Σ(Ci)
Where Ci is the credit assigned to the i-th course, and Gi is the grade point secured in that course.
2. Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)
CGPA measures overall cumulative performance across all completed semesters:
CGPA = Σ(Cni × SGPAi) / Σ(Cni)
Where Cni is the total credits in semester i, and SGPAi is the SGPA achieved in that semester.
Official VTU CGPA to Percentage Conversion Formula
According to official VTU academic regulations: Percentage (%) = [CGPA - 0.75] × 10. For example, a CGPA of 8.50 converts to 77.50%.
